Mission
To bring together leaders of federal and state government agencies, industry, and academia as well as international language experts and language researchers in an interactive venue:

• To discuss and deliberate initial strategic approaches to meeting the nation's language needs in the 21st century, and
• To identify actions that could move the United States toward a language-competent nation

Federal, state and industry leaders will discuss the language skills needed to maintain the national security and economic posture of the United States.

National and international experts will present best practices, international school models, and proposals for change.

Who Should Attend?
Policy makers and language action officers from:

• Federal government departments and agencies
• State government agencies
• Industries with global operations and/or domestic language issues
• Universities and school systems
• Foundations and associations that focus on language training and international education
• Foreign language experts

       Military dress is Class B/summer whites, or the equivalent.

Hosted by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Personnel and Readiness).
Co-hosted by the Center for Advanced Study of Language (CASL) at the University of Maryland College Park.
